Cyprus Ecologists prevent British army forces
from destroying forest areas
The immediate respond of Cyprus Green MP, George Perdikis and the members of the Famagusta district committee of Cyprus Green Party, in co-operation with the residents of Xylofagou village, was a complete success in preventing great environmental destruction of the Xylofagou forest by the British army base forces in the area.
The British colonists with the cover of heavy army forces, have been training in the forest area with real ammunition, tried to cut a great number of trees for their training purposes.
Cyprus Green MP, who was informed by the village residents, went immediately to the area with the result, all army operations to stop and the British soldiers to withdrawn from the area.
The area residents and the members of the district committee of Cyprus Green Party decided to patrol the area in order to prevent repetition of the incident by the British forces.
Cyprus Green Party reported the illegal action by the British to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus and to the European Parliament through the MEP’s of the EGP team.
